Hydrology Alps

The portal Hydrology Alps offers the necessary information for understanding and forecasting the short term hydro power production in the Alps. These information are shown separately for Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France and as sum for the whole region. They are available as graphics and as data in Excel-Sheets. The different pages show in daily resolution observations of the past 14 days and forecasts of the coming 10 days for

which is the amount of water available for energy production. This can be liquid precipitation but also water from melted snow or the soil or groundwater.

Run-of River Production

Run-of River Production

The result is the electricity production in run-of-water power plants supplemented by a dry and a wet scenario in order to show the sensitivity of deviations of forecasts.

The area Run-of River Production illustrates an overview of the run-of-river production in all countries.

The inflow forecasting is based on an HBV-model which is adapted to the hydrological and meterological conditions of the Alps region based on analysis of 40 years of historical data.
